Octavi Royo Olazaguirre Barcelona, 1981

Carried out one year of science and one year of humanities at the Vilassar High School. In 1997, he won a scholarship of the Ruta de Quetzal and travelled to Mexico. He studies a degree in Humanities at the Autonomous University of Barcelona while doing a course on Cinema Directing at the Quincedeoctubre Academy where he won the first prize for the best video clip and where he made Diálogos, his first short film.

Travels to Italy for a year where he takes classes on cinema and humanities. He makes his second short film with Julia Heim from New York. In 2003, he travels to Colombia and Venezuela where he makes a documentary on Hugo Chávez and the longest strike in history. In 2004 and 2005 he studies a Module of Higher Studies at the Media Audiovisual School (EMAV) where he makes a large number of video art and short films and founds the audio production team. The short film ‘VA’ and ‘9’8 m/s’ are played by the Apolo during the show in 2005. In 2005 he founds and directs DEJAVU, an alternative television programme which is broadcast weekly by Vilassar Televisió and which combines video art with short films and the programmes of interest for the general public.

The short film titled Mayo was chosen for the alternative festival of CCCB and the presentation was made in 2005. He won the first advertising prize in Spain organized by the General Traffic Agency with the group and they obtain euros 6000. He works with the Catalan cinema director, Ignasi P. Ferrer and together they direct the documentary called ‘Squatters’, which has been finished and will be released in May 2006. In summer 2005, he goes to Majorca and films a documentary of the Circus Festival of Cultures. In November 2005 and March 2006, he travels to Colombia to make several documentaries about Indian communities, peasants and those who have been displaced in the country with the producer Atkino Films and Video Combativo.

In Colombia he teaches classes on cinema to communities and works with a performance artist called Giovanna Mosquera Mora. He is currently preparing a video art television programme with the production centre and visual contemporary thought of Mataró, Can Xalant. He has taken classes of Video DJ, formed part of a group of live visual projections called Videoïna and has acted at Clap and La Paloma.
